Start Where You Stand

when agony seems hard to bear

vicioius times take over charm and mirth

your lonesome world is just unfair

life stops turning; to hatred it gives birth

the fate you now have leads your missery to forever

each moment is frustration, denial, and bust

opportunities just won't knock, they always give you a "never"

start where you stand, never mind your past

the past won't bring you to somewhere new

bear in mind, everything will end, you'll see

stay positive on what you're goin' though

look forward, set yourself free

leave that past to ancient history

take courage weakling!

you're not a puppet tied on painfull strings!!

realize the power of your charm, you can conquer the world ALONE!

now, break free from dependence, leave your comfort zone!!

look for that inner strenghth you've forgotten long ago

for now, you're niether blessed nor banned, grip on that faith 'till tomorrow...

expectations postponed can make the heart sick

NOT THAT I'M EXPECTING ANYTHING THOUGH...AND I AM NOT HEART-SICK EITHER!!!

just a little disillusioned..

stupid me...

first ofF, i would like to organize this emotional clutter in me by considering the possiblity that i MAY BE liking him. everything just got stucked up since the day we started getting to know each other. then he said he doesn't deserve me. and i felt the same way too. after all, i know everything will just be another great mistake if my "brake" breaks out. i am not yet ready for another emotional torture, and as much as possible, i don't wanna begin another bite of guilty pleasures that would certaily crush me into peices again. i've had my plans and priorities set forth this time. i know i've completely moved on from all sorts of missery miss brought by the first "just-like-him guy" in my life. I KNOW HE IS NEVER THE ONE! i may have enjoyed his company, but all i wanted was just a friendship with somebody who doesn't find me a jerk when i talk nonesense. somebody who catches up with my goofiness and still find me sane enough to talk about some serious matters in life. though i have to admit that he's the only guy that doesn't make feel like making excuses when we're on the phone and that he's the type of guy i'd want to make spengebob sandwich for, i STILL never wanted a partner so to speak. nor have i ever wanted him to like me the way he should despite the fact that we started this with the usual "boy-meets-girl" game.

but of all the irony that rested on it, i cannot explain what i felt when this guy started hitting on somebody. it was until this evening when i (and i still don't know why i did that) stalked on his profile and saw something that somehow downhearted me A BIT. the thought of him liking somebody left a BUM in me. shameful as it may seem, it did bite me. i couldn't explain this sense of angst playing in my mind while seeing how lured he is to some good-looking chick. more so, i couldn't figure out where in the world did all those feelings come from, when the last timei checked, HE WAS JUST A FRIEND? still, with all these glorious, unexplainable, and undesirable reasons i have, i do render the credit to my discreet instinct for reminding me that I DON'T HAVE ANY RIGHT TO REACT. i'm still gonna be his friend and let him live his life in whatever way he wants it while i live my life with happiness and contentment for the knowing that the GREATEST GUY in this universe is liking me (that i hope).

i have my own stance on things that he doesn't even care about; a firm doctrine to live by that makes my entire being and composes my identity. and i will keep this set of principles just exactly the way i have restored it not so long ago. and i will not care about whoever guy who would dare come in and try to sweep me off my feet- NOT EVEN HIM.

i believe it's just a fling that'll eventually wither in no time. for now, again, i am going back to my creed- I WILL LET LOVE SLEEP IN IT'S BED UNTIL ALL THE TRAUMA IS GONE. MAYBE THEN, IT'LL WAKE UP IN IT'S RIGHT TIME AND SHINE EVEN BRIGHTER AS IT DID BEFORE. lastly, let me remind myself that I AM NOT AN EASY PREY AND FALLING IS NOT MY WEAKNESS!!

i can't get you out of my mind. now i know you're a dangerous kind. and your face is tattooed on my mind. BUT I WILL GET YOU OUT OF MY DAY DREAMS BEFORE EVERYTHING TURNS INTO NIGHTMARE!!!

:)

table set for two

candles flicker softly on a table set for two

there's no one in this world tonight but me and you

a romantic dinner and a chilled bottle of wine

we're here together in this moment stopped by time

a love i thought i'll never know, is fin'ly born tonight

alone within our little world, you and i and candle light

held in my seat spellbounded by our laughter in the air

as i throw to the past my bitterness, mem'reis i no longer care

thoughts of you like snow flakes, falling gently in december's breeze

seeing thrugh your eyes as you look into mine, a love resting with ease

feel the fire heating up tonight, we're no longer broken souls

tenderness flowing in our hearts, God has made us a whole

no more to praise Jehovah alone, a'las! we're each other's own

at peace with your loving arms, captivated by you charms

and happily, i'll die for you...in this table set for two...

a letter to my almost mother-in-law

dear tita roni,

this note is originally titled "a letter to my future mother-in-law", but beause of the drastic conclusion of our love story, the priviledge to use that title is no longer mine. still, i wish you to know how great a priviledge it is for me to know you. thank you for being his mother. and if there's one thing i'd forever be thankful to our relationship, that would be the fantasy i had of, not only being his partner, but being you daughter. you are indeed the greatest blessing your youngest son has; the blessing i wished to share with him.

for now, i've ran out of playful, poetic words to color this letter. all i have are the plain, basic emotions just exactly what my heart feels now.

the memory of our first meeting is still crystal clear to me. i admit we didn't leave a boombastic impact on each other that day. but as i went on knowing you further, i was really certain that you are the best second person i'd call "mama". growing up in an extremely nuclear family with not much affection from my grandparents, having a good relationship with my future family-in-law is the biggest dream i wish to live with when i finally do my share of saving grace. i honestly wished you to be a part of my life forever. please don't get mad tita, but i've gotta confess something- i secretly call you "mama mines" when i'm with my friends (lol!). if you only know how i used to brag it to my gang that i have a good friendship with the mother of my boyfriend. and when people ask me what i like most in him, i'd reply "i love his family and i wanna be a part of it". i may not be as showy to you (and i regret it, i was just blown away with inferiority because i'm not as talented as your kids) but, again, one of my ambition is not just be his wife, but be your daughter. and when kenken came to your lives, i started dreaming of having neice and nephews- something i know i can't have on my own (haha).

thank you for trusting your son to me tita. the original context of this letter should be my gratitude for being the mother of the person i adore the most. but now, after all that happened, the reality is that i should be thanking your son for opening the door to our friendship. all these two years, one of my biggest dream is that we'd share a "ruth and naome" frienship as told in the bible book of "Ruth". if you only know how desirable it would be for me to be one of your "ruths". despite my break-up with your son, i still see you as my "naome" though i know you already might be having a different "ruth" from your youngest. tita, thank you so much for being who you are.

in this letter, i should be thanking you for raising up my knight in shining armor. however, now that the knight you raised up is saving a different princess, allow me do this on a different light. i thank you for being the best mother every child dreams of. and i thank you more for sharing a piece of you to me.

perhaps, the biggest mistake i had in my relationship with your son is that i dreamed so much of being a part of his family. i shouldn't be counting the chickens before the hatching of the eggs. but i can't help it. you have such a lovely set of household. maybe it's also born out of my dream of having siblings like your children. children that are raised up witht he supervision of one of the best learned parents. not like most of the siblings i know who do nothing but fight and contend with each other while disgracing thier parents. though it would probably cause me greater hurt by now, i regret not being able to extend my freindship to your family especially to tito ike and ate tet. i think i should have made something more for them. not for my own intentions of being your family's protege for your son, but because i believe good people deserve an extra mile of effort. indeed, tita, the biggest reason why i badly want our relationship to prosper is because i dream of being in the shoes of ate yani and ate chin (the shoes my mom never got to wear..lol!). maybe the best way to sum all my blabberings is that i want to be a part of a big family without the complications my parents suffered. and upon knowing you, i realized how reacheable my dream is.

now that this dream of mine is over, i still wish to share a good relationship with you. maybe i just have to accept that some other girl deserves you family more than i do. i may no longer be able to save my relationship with your son but i whish that doesnt break the potentials of my friendship with your family especially with you. and i thank you for making me feel it's still possible.

your last future daughter-in-law is truly blessed tita. as for me, i believe Jehovah God will someday give me my heart's desire (Ps. 37:4)- to find a set of in-laws that will accept me wholeheartedly. i know He has reserved me for another family as great as yours. i just have to patiently wait for that though. i believe one day, i'll meet another "mama mines" who'd love me as much as you do. and i will also have another "tito ike", "ate tet", "kuya ton", "ate ching", "kuya wang", "ate yani", and "kenken" to build my greatest bond with.

so long to my future mother-in-law. cheers to a new form of friendship. i love you, my almost-mother-in-law.

your almost daughter-in-law,

shane...

my sanday massacre

Perhaps if he had failed me earlier or later on in the relationship, my heartbreak might have taken a different form. All I know is that the ingredients in my own brain soup were bubbling on high boil the day he dumped the cauldron in my lap.

In the days, weeks, and a month (so far) following my "sanday" massacre, it's hard to say what really hurts — would it be the insult that he was the one who broke the bond, or simply the fact that it's all over? Moodwise, a persistent despondency alternated with sharp spikes of anxiety, a tag team that made it all but impossible for me to sleep or eat. Providing running commentary on these feelings was a nonstop flood of intrusive thoughts and images that assaulted me both day and night.

When scenes of him flirting with somebody new arose off-guearded in my mind, I get overcome with rage and fantasies of revenge. Other times, I'd suddenly find myself reliving memories of him in our sweetest, most endearing, most vulnerable moments. The urge to once again invite him to our house or to show him off to my schoolmates as we walk along the corridors of GET and DPT, or just simply flirt with him are even worse than the thought of throwing a glass of water on him, or slapping his face.

When I found myself cataloging his perfections, I tried, in vain, to negate each one with a flaw. But these, too, served only to make him more human and endearing.

Obsessive despair is endlessly inventive — it has a genius for knowing what a sufferer least wants to hear. It's like being trapped in a box with a loudspeaker that amplifies your own voice, continuously broadcasting your shortcomings. Nothing I would do could make me shut up.

On a parallel track to all of this ran the feverish schemings of an addict. Cravings for him could be set off by almost anything — a whiff of his scent, places we usually go to, songs on the radio, a silhouette that vaguely resembled him. I couldn't escape even in sleep — I had recurring dreams that he'd never left, dreams that turned to nightmares at the moment of waking.

After almost a month of this, I tried to replace him with another guy. He was kind, smart, and fairly good looking, but he never smelled like him, nor talked like him. Once when he was flirting with me with sweet, flattering words, saying thank you was all I could do to keep myself from turning my back on him. He wasn't Ernest, and that was something I couldn't forgive.

While Ernest and I were together, I'd desired him intensely for the happiness he brought me. In his absence, happiness now seemed the merest of trifles. What I craved from him now is just a cure for the pain. But even that seems impossible.

It's easy to see why natural selection would favor our ancestors' capacity to feel love's rewards — what they call "the mind or body opium" of romantic triumph. Much harder to understand is why they would also have passed down such a capacity for suffering when love fails.

Just as human intelligence has installed reward mechanisms that flood our brains with pleasure when we are successful in love, so had this equipped us with brain circuits that steer psychological pain when we fail.

Intuitively, this doesn't seem to make any sense. Given how incapacitating heartbreak can be, wouldn't we be better off inheriting bounce-back genes — the kind that could let us shrug off rejection and move on without missing a beat? I have digested the lesson and learned to be more careful next time. But in my every weeping and rejection i endlessly wonder, what possible good can come from such persistent pain?

There's this knee-jerk bias we have that only 'feel-good' states are adaptive, and things that make us feel bad are pathological. But there are actually many unpleasant states — pain, fever, nausea, and diarrhea, for example — that definitely don't feel good but are nevertheless highly adaptive.

Still, as i look back, I know Ernest made me feel that I was intelligent, witty, attractive, and worthy. So despite the pain, my heart is still overflowing with gratitude for the knowing that I am actually worth a man's attention.

the art of moving on

i don't know how long. but someday, i will bring this art to perfection.

I got my heart badly broken today. Finally, I’ve come to my senses that you’re not coming back anymore. Shun all the reasons you give. No matter how you rearrange your words, your eyes say the same thing over and over again- “I just don’t love you that much”. Somehow, within those years, I’ve come to know you pretty well. You love hard, and you break hard. It isn’t safe to assume that I’ve already reached acceptance. But at least, I’m learning to see my tears as memories that I just have to let go of. Perhaps this is why I can’t stop crying ‘til now. Funny how a single tear can mean so much emotions. And this time, I’m shedding them off. I don’t know how long will I ever stop crying. Few days from now? A week? A month? Who knows it might take years (but that I doubt). I’ve honestly gotten weary and annoyed of my sobs. But I know I have to let these tears flow if I need to let you go. Perhaps, when we meet again, the sting won’t be as much as it is now. Or it could be worse. But there are only two things that I’m certain of. You and I are over; and you have gotten over me. Might as well say you have found that somebody to watch Saturday movies with. And I with these truths, I will start perfecting my art of moving on.

Today is my 1st month of gloom and emptiness. As you see, I’m torn. And I’m not ashamed of it. At least, I finally figured out what it is to love and be broken. Painful, as what they say. It really is. And it won’t be an exaggeration when I say it’s like a mini death. Why? Because when I said “you are my life”, I meant it. And I still mean it. But please don’t go over this thinking you are the last guy on earth. Because I might not see it, but I know I’ll love again. And I know I’ll love more next time. Somehow, I couldn’t get myself to say that I don’t want you back. But at least I will stop myself from asking.

I’ve always wished you could stop for a moment and see that what we had isn’t just a negotiation or a broken contract. That I hope you will be able to find it in you to give a little more try and realize that it is love we’re fighting for. I longed for you to give a little more passion just as what you’ve always been asking me not so long ago. But again, there are just things in life that, no matter how wonderful, passionate, and soulful they are, only happen simply to give us a lesson. And this time, I’ve gotta admit that no matter how good I fought for this, all I got myself into is just a training field so finely designed to appear as though I was in a real battle field. Still, I don’t regret giving a good fight in this ‘coz I finally have a preview of my potentials as a warrior of love. And with this, I am finally aware how precious I am as a partner.

One day, I believe somebody will come and wipe all this fears and pain away. He will come knocking at my door and appreciate my worth that you overlooked. In return, I will see him better than I saw you. I know yours will come sooner and I just have to face that another bite of agony. But it won’t be a big deal by then when I will finally meet him. He’d probably come late. But I believe he is worth all the wait. And when he comes, I would have gotten myself ready to love again as though I never have felt passion in you. You may not care then. But I won’t care about that either. And if there’s anything I’ll have for you, it would be gratitude for opening me that opportunity with him.

For now, I’m not that strong yet. And I just have to keep crying still. I still have to ask endless questions about your seemingly never ending promises before. And though I know I won’t be able to find the answers, I simply need to go over them. Eventually, I will accept that those promises are just made to be broken and make me stronger. I know one day I will finally be able to look in your eyes, smile, and say, “thanks for the wonderful ride you gave me”, then I’ll sigh and whisper to his ears, “but I now have better”.

=)
